Lamborghini finally pulled back the curtain on its first electric vehicle, and it is engineered to go crazy-fast.
The Lanzador concept, which the company said is a "concrete vision" of the production version of the all-electric Lambo, debuted at Monterey Car Week. It features a four-seater configuration with relatively high ground clearance. Similar to the Urus SUV, the Lanzador gives drivers more room to use the vehicle in different scenarios, not just a low-riding supercar. Electric Mini Car
While the configuration is more conventional, the Landador does not hold back on performance. The EV boasts a peak power of one megawatt, which translates to 1,341 horsepower. All-wheel drive also delivers e-torque vectoring for an agile and fine-tuned ride.
The Lanzador previews a slew of new technology for the sports car brand. From hardware to software, the Lanzador will be equipped with cutting-edge tech for the brand, the company said.
A new high-performance battery will deliver the blistering megawatt of power while also ensuring a longer range, according to Lamborghini. Customizable driving controls also allow the driver to adjust for any driving experience, including active aerodynamics that can increase the range per charge while also improving performance.
Lamborghini's Lanzador electric car is the first step into the brand's all-electric future. Earlier this summer, Lambo CEO Stephan Winkelmann said the brand had sold out its remaining production run of fully gas-powered models.
In addition to Lanzador, Lamborghini will also sell plug-in hybrid replacements for the Aventador and Huracan supercars, as well as the Urus SUV.
After decades of fine-tuning its roaring V12 engines, Winkelmann told Insider earlier this year it was time for the brand to embrace electrification. The push comes amid tightening emission regulations around the world.
Unlike other concept vehicles, which never come to fruition and are typically used to signal the future of design and technology for a brand, Lamborghini says the Lanzador is a real vehicle that will hit the road in 2028.
Chan Lee Electric Car Production is slated for the company's Sant'Agata Bolognese factory, which will require expansion and additional employees, the company said.
